Cookie policy
What this website stores in your browser, why it is stored, which of it needs your permission, and how you give or withdraw that permission at any time.
1. What cookies are
A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to store on your device. On a later visit the site can read that file back, which is how a shop remembers things such as what is in your cart or which language you chose.
The same rules apply to techniques that are not cookies but do the same job. This website uses two of them:
- localStorage — a store in your browser that keeps information until it is deleted. It has no expiry date and is never sent to our server automatically.
- sessionStorage — the same idea, but emptied as soon as you close the browser tab.
Throughout this page "cookies" is used as shorthand for all of these. A distinction that matters below: first-party storage is set by ombraoutdoor.nl itself, while third-party storage is set by another company whose service runs on our pages.
Under the Dutch Telecommunications Act and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), storing or reading information on your device requires your consent, unless that storage is strictly necessary to deliver the service you asked for. Section 3 shows which of our categories fall on which side of that line.
2. Consent
Consent on this website is handled by Cookiebot, a consent management platform. On your first visit it shows a banner in which you accept or refuse each category of cookies separately, and it records that choice so the banner does not have to ask again on every page.
The consent script runs with automatic blocking enabled
(data-blockingmode="auto"). In practice this means that scripts and cookies
which are not strictly necessary are held back until you have given permission for their
category. Nothing beyond strictly necessary storage is set before you decide.
Your choice is not final: you can change or withdraw it at any moment, as described in section 6. Refusing everything except the necessary category leaves the shop fully usable — you can browse, configure a system, fill a cart and send an order request.
Refusing everything except the necessary category leaves the shop fully usable: you can browse, configure a system, fill a cart and send an order request without accepting a single optional cookie.
3. Categories
Cookiebot sorts everything it finds into four categories. The table below explains what each one is for and whether it needs your consent.
| Category | Purpose | Consent required |
|---|---|---|
| Necessary | Keeps the shop working: remembers your consent choices and the contents of your cart and order request. Without this storage the site cannot do what you asked it to do. | No — strictly necessary |
| Preferences | Remembers choices that change how the site looks or behaves for you — on this website, the display language you selected. | Yes |
| Statistics | Measures how visitors find and use the site, in aggregate, so it can be improved. Not in use at the time of writing. | Yes |
| Marketing | Follows visitors across websites in order to show advertising or measure campaigns. Not in use at the time of writing. | Yes |
At the time of writing this website loads no analytics, advertising, social media or other tracking scripts, so the Statistics and Marketing categories are listed for completeness and stand empty. If such a service is ever added, it will be blocked until you consent to its category, and this page must be updated to name it.
4. Storage this website sets itself
Besides the consent record described in section 5, everything ombraoutdoor.nl stores it stores in your own browser. None of it is an advertising or tracking identifier, none of it is sold or shared, and none of it is combined into a profile.
| Key | What it stores | Where | Lifetime |
|---|---|---|---|
ombra-cart |
The products, options and quantities in your cart | localStorage | No expiry — until you clear it |
ombra-lang |
The display language you selected | localStorage | No expiry — until you clear it |
ombra-welcome |
That the welcome offer has been shown, so you see it once and not on every page | localStorage | No expiry — until you clear it |
ombra-viewed |
The last products you looked at, used for the "recently viewed" row | localStorage | No expiry — until you clear it |
ombra-promo |
A discount code you entered, so it stays applied to your cart | localStorage | No expiry — until you clear it or remove the code |
Because these entries have no expiry date, they stay in your browser until you remove them. Clearing them is harmless: it empties your cart, resets the language to English and lets the welcome offer appear once more.
Sending an order request is a separate act. What you type into a form — your name, address and the system you want — is not what the storage above is for; how that information is handled is described in our privacy policy.
5. Third-party cookies
One third-party service runs on this website: the Cookiebot consent manager. It stores the record of your consent — which categories you accepted, when, and under which version of the banner — so that your choice can be honoured and demonstrated. This storage is part of the necessary category, because without it your refusal could not be remembered.
The exact, current list of cookies on the site is not maintained by hand here. Cookiebot scans the website and generates it automatically, which keeps it accurate as the site changes. You can read that list, per category and per cookie, in the Details tab of the consent banner — shown as "Show details" once the banner has become the small settings widget — before you decide anything.
Cookiebot is operated by Usercentrics A/S. It acts as our processor: it may use the consent record only to carry out the work we give it, and it is bound by a processing agreement. Its own cookie declaration, listed in the banner, states where that record is stored and for how long.
6. How to change or withdraw your consent
Through the consent widget
The Cookiebot widget stays available after you have made your first choice — as a small badge or link on the page. Open it to see your current settings, change a category or withdraw your consent entirely. A change takes effect immediately and applies to every later visit from the same browser. Withdrawing consent does not remove data that was collected while consent was valid, but it stops any further collection.
Through your browser
Your browser gives you the last word. In the privacy or site-data settings of Chrome, Safari, Firefox or Edge you can inspect the cookies and storage a website has placed, delete them for a single site, delete all of them, or block them in advance. The exact wording differs per browser and version; the help pages of the browser you use describe the current steps.
Blocking storage for this website is your right and the shop keeps working, but the convenience goes with it: the cart will not survive a page change, the language will reset, and the site will ask for your consent again on every visit because it cannot remember that you answered.
